Background
The American Revolutionan era began in 1763. After the French and Indain War ended British adopted a policy that the colonies should pay an increased proportion of the costs associated with keeping them under british rule. In order to pay back some of the money lost in the French and Indian War, Britian imposed many direct taxes and laws to show the american colonies britishs authority. The people of the American colonies were angered with the lack of representation in the british parliament many of the americans thought all the laws were violations of their rights as englishmen.
Causes
French and Indian War- British station more troops in North america. Colonist asked to pay more taxes to help pay of war debts for the British.
Proclamation of 1763-stopped colonist from moving across the crest of the Appalachian Mountains.
Intolerable acts-one shut down the boston harbor after the colonist refused to pay taxes for the tea that was dumped in the boston tea party.
The Quartering Act allowed British to put soliders in homes of the colonist.
Boston Massacre- even though not many people were killed it still hit home that there was very much an agression towards the British
Appalachian Mountains Economic
Mercantilism- colonist's existed to provide raw materials to the mother contry of Britian.
Sugar Act- estasblished a tax on foreign imports
Stamp Act- established a tax on printed materials
Twonshend Acts- Established a tax on things import into the colonies
Political
The Belief in natural rights- the people in the colonies had no rights to freedom in the colonies.
Abundance of avaliable land qualifies white males to vote
